A current Patrol
Special Officer must sponsor and nominate applicants for
Assistant Patrol Special Officer.

|
|
Applicants must be 21
years of age and of good moral character as defined by
P.O.S.T.
All of these documents
must be
submitted at the same time
to the Program Administrator:
|
|
|
|
|
A.
|
Letter of nomination
and sponsorship by a current Patrol Special Officer.
|
|
|
|
|
B. |
Proof of
U.S. citizenship or a permanent resident alien who has
applied for U.S. citizenship. |
|
|
|
|
C. |
Copy of High School
Diploma or GED test certification.
|
|
|
|
|
D. |
Completed private
background investigation package of applicant.
|
|
|
|
|
E. |
Letter, signed by
private physician, certifying candidate to be free from
any physical, emotional, or mental condition which
adversely affects the applicant for duty as an Assistant
Patrol Special Officer.
|
|
|
|
|
F. |
Copy of POST Basic
832 course certificate or higher issued within the last
3 years. The applicant must be able to be appointed
before the certificate expires.

|
|
|
|
G. |
Copy of a valid
exposed firearm permit.
|
|
|
|
|
H. |
Copy of a valid guard
registration card.
|
|
|
|
|
I. |
Copy of valid
identification, California driver’s license, U.S.
passport, etc.
|
|
|
|
2. |
The Patrol Special
Program Administrator will review the documents
submitted.
|
|
|
|
|
If any document submitted
is incomplete or invalid, all the documents will be
returned to the applicant or sponsoring Patrol Special
Officer. The
applicant will be advised to re-submit the documents
when they are complete and/or valid.
|
|
|
|
|
If documents submitted
are complete and valid, the documents will be forwarded
to the Background Unit. The background investigation
process will then begin.
|
|
|
|
3. |
Applicant
Responsibility
|
|
|
|
|
It is the responsibility
of the applicant to cooperate and provide information
requested. The background investigator will not make
repeated requests for the applicant to provide more
information.
|
|
|
|
|
IIf the requested
information is not provided within 30 days, the
background investigation will be discontinued and the
background investigation closed.
|
|
|
|

Applicant is required
to submit to a fingerprint check to disclose criminal
record
|
|
|
|
|
If the fingerprint check is not done within 30 days of
the request, the background investigation will be
discontinued and the background investigation closed.
|
|
|
|
5. |
Approving Body
|
|
|
|
|
When the background
investigation is complete, the background investigator
will submit the background investigation packet to the
Chief of Police for review and recommendation.
|
|
|
|
|
After the Chief of Police
makes his/her recommendation, the background
investigation packet will be submitted to the Police
Commission who will approve or disapprove the applicant. |
